Fred Obare's Biography

Fred Obare was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. After struggling a lot living a life without hope and a future, he finally found peace in his heart when he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior in March 1995.

He began his musical journey in 1996 as a worship leader in his local church in the slums of Nairobi. He later on joined Youth for Christ and toured different cities in Kenya and the United States from 1999 to 2003.

The following year 2004, he again toured the United States and Switzerland with the Continental Singers a great American music ministry based in California.
After his musical tour with the Continental Singers in the middle of 2004, he went solo and released his first album "Bwana U Mkuu" (Swahili for "Lord you are Great"). This CD has a blend of eleven different styles of music and has the famous Luhya medley and the title track Bwana U Mkuu.

In 2005, Fred recorded his second album titled “Zaburi 1” (Psalm 1). This has the hit songs Zaburi 1, Wewe ni Bwana and Luo Medley (which has Niwara nono & wan wadhi ka Yesu) and many other great African praise and worship songs. The great African sound, the harmony, and the message on this album will encourage and lift up your spirit.

In the beginning of 2008, he recorded his new CD "Nisamehe" (Forgive me). This album has 13 great songs and 5 different languages; English, Spanish, Swahili, Luo and Lingala. The other great thing on this album is the different styles and genres. The CD has; urban gospel, old time traditional gospel, Contemporary jazz, Lingala, Traditional African praise and worship and also contemporary praise and worship. As a praise and worship leader, Fred has always wanted to do something new and fresh that he’s never done before. The bible says to sing unto the Lord a new song and this album sure has a lot of great new songs.

In September 2008, he released his first DVD titled African Praise and Dance. This remarkable DVD featuring great African celebration songs like "Wan wadhi ka Yesu," Itaa yanje Yesu," and a spirit lifting worship song "Wewe ni Bwana and more... will inspire you and make you jump to your feet and praise the Lord. Experience the splendid passion and energy in this powerful captivating African gospel praise and dance celebration captured in Africa "Kenya."

His latest project just released on January 18th, 2009 is a live DVD recording in Nairobi, Kenya. About 7000 enthusiastic worshippers gathered together for a night of uninterrupted great live praise and worship at the Nairobi Pentecostal Church Valley Road, Nairobi, Kenya and provided the best backdrop for this music celebration. The awesome "Live" worship experience will take you on a remarkable journey and for an exhilarating and revolutionary worship adventure. This 2 disc DVD will make you get your praise on, take you into worship and take you to Kenya! Capture the spirit and energy of worship leader/songwriter/recording artist and producer Fred Obare as he leads worship accompanied by great renowned music favorites as they express their love for God and present a sacrifice of praise to the nations.

God is using him now all over the world to spread the word and reaching out through his music and his gifts. He is also leading worship in conferences, crusades, revival meetings, camp meetings, youth meetings and church services in the US, Africa and other parts of the world. He has had the privilege to curtain raise for renowned gospel artists like Benita Washington and Stephen Hurd.

In addition to ministering out there, Fred is also recording, producing, arranging music and teaching musical instruments like the guitar, bass and piano. He has been able to produce for a few other artists and church groups in Kenya, Tanzania and the United States. He also wants to reach out to the young upcoming artists that are struggling and help produce for them great quality music.

He is married to Mercy and they are currently based in Birmingham, Alabama.
